The First Day of Planting

The turn out for the class was small – approximately 5 combined families.
We began with prayer and started.

We {Izumi & I} prepped our row, met a few of the other clients and confused our row with the one next to us. I blamed the mishap on Izumi – to which she responded with humor – because she is such a good sport. She did not respond however, to the suggestion of creating a “Geisha Crow” for our scarecrow – because that would mean that our scarecrow would be a prostitute, and she did not like that. That was a small oversight on my part. Izumi helped Jeannie untangle some of the irrigation hoses and proved to be very fast. Izumi is very willing to help and learn and it will be interesting to see a deepening friendship between Jeannie and Izumi...

We planted 4 lettuce varieties:

Harris’ Lettuce Blend
Super Jericho Romaine
Colored Romaine Blend
Butter Crunch

I picked onions, lettuce, spearmint and sage.

Second day – we planted onions. I gave Izumi a hat that was too big. I stuck plastic Sunflowers in the stick so we don’t lose our row. Dropped carrot seed.

Texas Onions
Red Onions

On Monday I took boxes to Jeannie and did little with the row. {I just shoveled a little mulch while Izumi did most of the work}. Bonded with the orange kitty and fed Nellie, the goat.

I did heavy harvesting on the onions and lettuce in the small greenhouse and cleared weeds for the compost pile. Mapped the row and submitted a produce list to J.W. One of the neighbor’s South African show goats gave birth to what looks like three baby goats.
